ANNUAL REPORT FOR 2008
Sixteen
apartments are currently occupied. There
were three apartment turnovers in 2007.
Of our 18 apartment residents, six are from church. Our church members and friends are encouraged
to get on the apartment waiting list.
There is no fee and no exhaustive application to complete. We are committed to making improvements in
the apartments and honoring special requests.
2007 Events
In
2007 our census was 99.6% with 71 open bed days. Almost 47% of our residents received skilled
care, a decrease of 1.6% from last year.
Seven of our nursing home residents are from church. We had two discharges and 16 deaths.
We
have 88 employees, of whom 13 are from church.
Our overall staff turnover increased slightly from 34.1% to 37.2%. CNA turnover decreased from 61.5% to
46.2%. Our annual survey resulted in one
paperwork deficiency.
The
Board of Directors approved room and board rate increases for 2008 of
approximately 2.5% for all levels of care.
Room rates range from $157.00-$202.00/day. The Board has approved $88,000 in capital
expenses for 2008.
We
currently have 18 residents on Medicaid.
We will write off over $12,000 this year for every intermediate Medicaid
resident, over $16,000 for each one that is skilled, and over $20,000 for each
one requiring heavy skilled care. We
wrote off over $340,000 in Medicaid for 2007, which was actually considerably
better than anticipated. OUR TOTAL
ESTIMATED WRITE-OFF FOR MEDICAID RESIDENTS IN 2008 IS PROJECTED TO BE OVER
$445,000. Obviously, your financial
support is still critical to the success of ACR.
Donations
for 2007 totaled $100,416, including memorials and donations directed to
activities. The
Dick
Kilgus has replaced Bob Cox on the Board starting in 2008 for a six-year
term. Officers for 2008 are Glen
Pfeifer, President; Dave Martin, Vice President; Roger Weiss, Secretary; and
Dave Jepson, Treasurer.

It seems that we always have a few minor needs for small items that would make our jobs a little easier. Some of our current needs are listed here. If anyone would like to help us out at ACR by donating one or more of the items on our “wish list”, we would be most grateful!
· 16 or 32 oz. spices: granulated garlic, black pepper, preferably with shaker top
· 2-cup and 4-cup measuring cups, long handled rubber spatulas
· Hymns of Zion songbooks with “How Great Thou Art” back page insert
· Large bulletin board, 3 ft. x 5 ft. or larger
We continue to
accept contributions toward the purchase of an easy access tub for our nursing
home residents. This would give our
residents a possible choice of a tub bath versus a shower.

Apostolic Christian Resthaven has joined the CommUNITY Banking program with National City Bank. Anyone who opens a new personal checking,
savings, money market, IRA or CD with National City Bank and declares
affiliation with our organization qualifies us to receive a one-time donation
from National City Bank. ACR will also
then be eligible to receive a donation based on the interest earned and paid
annually on every account designated for our organization. Check with Dave Stieglitz for more details.
MELISSA ACEVEDO
I am nominating for
a Shining Star award one of our Certified Nurse’s Aides who has been employed
by our facility for more than four years.
Her quiet, shy manner disguises the friendly efficient way she interacts
with residents and co-workers. Our
Shining Star truly seems to enjoy working with the residents. She is always smiling and gentle as she cares
for her charges. She has a kind way of
coaxing a resident to try an activity or perform a task. At mealtime, our Shining Star has a gift for
getting reluctant residents to eat or cooperate when being fed. She has a special way of calming a specific
resident who can be very vocal when she is agitated, which can be often. I have never seen her appear frustrated or
impatient, even when things get most hectic.
She is a very
efficient CNA and well liked by our residents.
She performs her tasks quickly and thoroughly with minimal disturbance
to the resident. She is a ready and
willing helper to other staff members who need extra assistance or are having
difficulty completing their resident care assignments due to the extent of care
required. She interacts with everyone
that she meets as she moves through the facility, stopping to listen or speak
briefly with residents that appear to have needs or questions. She is very willing to stay late or come in
early when we are short staffed.
Our Shining Star
also has that same quiet, friendly way as she interacts with co-workers and
visitors. She has fun and seems to enjoy
her job and life. She has introduced
several people to our facility who have applied and
become dependable employees.
This young woman is a definite asset to our organization and an outstanding example to her co-workers. She is truly one of our Shining Stars.

SOME ANONYMOUS THOUGHTS ON GRANDPARENTING:
Grandmas are just
antique little girls.
Grandchildren are
God’s way of compensating us for growing old.
It’s amazing how
grandparents seem so young once you become one!
